Can you believe that we only have 25 days until Christmas?  I am so happy that Thanksgiving has passed, I just love the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season.  Our home is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.  The three older boys helped me put up our Christmas tree and my one year old monster has graciously been taking it down for days now.  He comes to me several times a day with my ornaments in his hand yelling "see-see".  Little monster!  We have a lot happening here ...

 There will be a tent over the rink and adding to the festive atmosphere in the area will be holiday lighting, paid for by the city and Volusia County. In keeping with the beach theme, the lights will feature fish and seahorses.  will be open through Jan. 8 from noon to 10 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekends

Friday, December 2 through Friday, December 23 - Summertime Exploration Challenge

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area
Kids- bring a book and camera to a state park and take the challenge! Parents and kids can go online to print the rules and checklist of activities. Kids are required to complete five activities on the list, including reading a book in a state park, and send a photo of each one to enter the contest. Good luck! You will earn a FREE pass for you and your family to a State Park!

After the close of the Post Office, a Santa movie will be screened. 1:30 P.M. Movie Rating: G Based on the book by Chris Van Allsberg, the tale tells of a young boy who wants to believe in Santa even though his friends have "grown out of it." On Christmas Eve, he boards a steam train which takes him on a magical ride to the North Pole.

Parents, mark your calendar for the annual "Holiday Tea Party" hosted by Mrs. Claus at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park.

Almond Pretzels with M&Ms


Do you need a sweet and salty treat for the holiday season?  A treat your kids can help with? Plus a treat where they can learn or practice their counting?  Well, look no further; here is a treat with only three ingredients.  

You will need:

  • Round pretzels
  • Plain M&Ms
  • Almond Bark
  • Microwave bowl
  • Spoon
  • Wax paper
  • Storage container

Children can receive postcards from Santa


Santa is making his list and checking it twice at Volusia County's Park and Recreation and Culture Division.  As a part of an annual tradition, the division will send personalized postcards to children up to 11 years old.  Parents can have their children added to Santa's mailing list by e-mailing the child's name and address to elves@volusia.org, calling 386-736-5953 or faxing 386-943-7012
