Super Superbowl Beer Brats
By: By: Mary Lauren Randall
Superbowl Sunday is all about enjoying a good game and even better food. Here is a simple, quick, and yummy meal your friends will be raving about all year long.
Ingredients:
- Johnsonville's Original Bratwurst (you could use any brand but we like Johnsonville)
- 3 or 4 cans of beer
- 1 vidalia onion (or any white onion)
- 2 tbs butter
- Deli Mustard
- Sauerkraut
- Potato Rolls
Direction:
- During the first quarter of the game melt butter in a big pot and slice up the onion into rings.
- Add the onions to the melted butter and let them sweat for a couple of minutes.
- Add brats and enough beer to cover brats and onions. Let them simmer for 45 minutes.
- Enjoy the game.
- At halftime grill brats on low heat until nice and brown.
- Return brats to the same pot of yummy onions and beer and simmer for about 30 minutes (or third quarter of game).
- The game is back on. Don't miss it.
- It's fourth quarter and the kitchen smells awesome. Serve 'em up. Make the ultimate brat with a potato roll, deli mustard, brat and sauerkraut.
The key to this recipe is to keep each element. Potato rolls have a slightly sweet taste that works great in contrast to the brat and sauerkraut. Brats dry out really easily. Simmering them before AND after are essential. Oh, and while your grilling stick a couple of plain hot dogs on for the kids.
Enjoy!
